Organizational Background

Kamukunji Paralegal Network Association, herein referred to as KAPLEN, is a Society based in Pumwani area of Kamukunji Constituency. The organization was formed in 2004 with the main aim of providing legal assistance, legal education and representation to the larger population in Kamukunji Constituency and its environs. It consists of a total of 9 staff members - 5 Males and 4 Females - from local groups within Pumwani, Kiambiu, Bahati, ShauriMoyo, Eastleigh and Matopeni (Part of Starehe Constituency), who are trained as paralegal workers in areas of Law and Legal procedures, Community Development, Communication Theory and skills, Dramatic Communication and Social Science Research. The organization works with resource persons within the communities around

The organization has been in existence since 2004 and acquired its Certificate of registration on 6th January 2010, as a Society in the Republic of Kenya. The organization has a satellite office in the peoples’ settlements of Motherland, Eastleigh Section 3, Along Mufududu Street, Nairobi (Kenya)

Mission

The organization’s mission is Ensuring Equal rights, opportunity and justice is applied to both the advantaged and the disadvantaged people.

Goal

The organizations overall goal is To have a community that is empowered, participatory towards development and protected from any kind of Human Rights Violation

Programs.

The organization has four major programs/thematic areas namely:

1. Legal Aid and Education.

2. Health and Environment.

3. Leadership and Governance.

4. Youth, Children and Gender.
